URGENT UPDATE: A newly renovated child and youth health wing has officially opened at Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health on Macedon Street. This significant upgrade, made possible by a $3 million state government grant, was unveiled by Sunbury MP Josh Bull on August 4, 2023.
The six-month renovation aims to enhance health services for local families and young people. Chief Executive David Wild emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming environment. “We’ve launched our refurbishment, which includes new offices specifically designed to engage young people, families, and communities,” he stated. This transformation is a crucial step toward improving community health services in the Sunbury area.
The redesigned facility features a family-friendly waiting area complete with a fish tank and engaging play equipment, including a large felt tree. Additional enhancements include a new carer’s room and a quiet space for prayer or meditation, catering to the diverse needs of the community. The design, crafted by Melbourne-based ODC Design, also incorporates colorful play therapy spaces and open-plan offices for program staff, as well as private telephone rooms for clinicians conducting telehealth appointments.
“We aim to create a welcoming and warm entry point for community members visiting our service where everyone feels valued,” Wild added. Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, particularly from younger clients who are excited to explore the new space.
During the opening ceremony, Bull toured the new facilities, interacting with both clients and staff. He praised the organization for its dedication to the community: “Sunbury Cobaw Community Health has served our community with passion, dedication, and care for many years. I am proud to have advocated for this well-deserved funding, ensuring that Sunbury Cobaw’s service delivery will continue to benefit local families for years to come.”
As the community celebrates this significant milestone, the focus now shifts to the ongoing improvements in health services that will directly impact families in Sunbury and surrounding areas. Local residents and stakeholders are encouraged to visit the upgraded facility and experience the new offerings firsthand.
Stay tuned for more updates as the positive effects of this renovation unfold in the community.
