Chef Michael Mina and Steph Curry Launch New Bar Concept in SF

Chef Michael Mina is collaborating with NBA star Steph Curry to introduce a new bar concept, alongside an additional location of his renowned restaurant Bourbon Steak. This venture will be situated at the Westin St. Francis in Union Square, San Francisco, and is set to open in October 2023.

The new Bourbon Steak will mark the eleventh location of this popular steakhouse brand, which originated in 2009. Known for its signature shellfish towers and steaks grilled over wood, the restaurant will join existing locations in cities including Las Vegas, New York, and Washington, D.C.. The menu will feature an array of raw bar items, including Alaskan snow crab, oysters on the half shell, and truffled hamachi crudo. For seafood lovers, the offerings will include cast-iron broiled shellfish platters, caviar parfaits, and crab cakes.

Steak options will be equally impressive, with highlights such as a 32-ounce dry-aged porterhouse, a 20-ounce bone-in 100-day dry-aged cowboy, and a 6-ounce petite filet made from Australian beef. As with other Bourbon Steak locations, guests can look forward to a fish sommelier service, featuring the “Ornos fish cart” that showcases the freshest catches on ice at each table.

Alongside the restaurant, the team will unveil Eighth Rule, a bar concept boasting a bourbon-centric menu. This venue will offer craft cocktails, a selection of bourbons, and small plates. Mina emphasizes that the Eighth Rule is a passion project for Curry, stemming from his ownership of the bourbon brand Gentleman’s Cut.

When discussing the decision to expand into the Bay Area, Mina expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “You get sick of everyone telling you San Francisco is dead… It’s not dead. I see the numbers at Pabu. It was perfect to come back to this space I’ve been involved with for almost two decades.”

Both establishments are anticipated to attract a diverse clientele, blending Mina’s culinary expertise with Curry’s star power. The combination of a high-end steakhouse and a bourbon-focused bar reflects a growing trend in the hospitality industry, where unique dining experiences are increasingly sought after.
