The Albany Health Campus in Western Australia has completed a significant expansion of its car park, providing much-needed relief for visitors, patients, and staff. The new facility, which includes 100 additional parking bays, represents an investment of $2 million and aims to enhance accessibility at the region’s largest hospital.
John Carey, Minister for Health Infrastructure, announced the project’s completion on February 23, 2024. He expressed satisfaction with the development, stating, “It’s great to see this important project for the Albany community reach practical completion, making the hospital more accessible for patients, families, and staff.”
The expanded car park also features upgraded lighting and CCTV, which are essential for enhancing safety as individuals access hospital services. This improvement is a part of the government’s broader commitment to investing in healthcare, underscored by a total spending of $4.9 billion on health infrastructure.
Enhancements and Future Plans
Construction at the Albany Health Campus began in February 2023, with Devlyn Construction serving as the managing contractor. This expansion fulfills a promise made by former Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens in 2021, addressing the persistent issue of parking overflow experienced at the facility due to limited spaces.
The $2 million project included various upgrades, such as new wayfinding signage, safety bollards, pathways, and crosswalks, in addition to the critical CCTV and security lighting enhancements. Health Minister Meredith Hammat highlighted the importance of this upgrade, particularly as the hospital prepares for the construction of a new 32-bed modular ward.
“This important and timely upgrade to the hospital’s car park comes ahead of a planned 32-bed modular ward build, significantly increasing capacity inside the facility. It’s one of the many projects that form our record $4.9 billion health infrastructure investment, ensuring all Western Australians have access to the health care they need, when they need it,” Hammat stated.
The completion of this car park expansion marks a pivotal step in improving the experience of those who rely on the Albany Health Campus for essential services, ensuring that both current and future needs of the community are met effectively.
