UPDATE: Major changes are underway at 7NEWS Perth as beloved presenters Susannah Carr and Rick Ardon announce their transition to a new schedule starting on January 18, 2026. After a remarkable 40 years at the helm, the duo will co-anchor the flagship 6pm bulletin from Thursday to Saturday, while Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun will take over from Sunday to Wednesday.
This transition marks a significant moment in Perth’s media landscape. Carr expressed excitement about the opportunity to enjoy life outside the studio. “We often get asked just how long we’ll remain in the role and now seems the right time to stay at the desk but start freeing ourselves up to enjoy life away from the studio more,” she stated.
Rick echoed her sentiments, emphasizing his ongoing passion for journalism. “I expect to be a news breaker well into the future,” he said, affirming their commitment to viewers.
Director of news and current affairs Ray Kuka highlighted that this new schedule allows Carr and Ardon to contribute “where their experience matters most.” “2025 was a celebration of Sue and Rick’s historic contribution to WA, with a world record of 40 years fronting a news bulletin,” he said. Kuka noted that the new arrangement aims to provide flexibility while maintaining the integrity of WA’s most watched and trusted bulletin.
This strategic move also allows McMillan and Tsun to continue expanding their roles, bringing fresh energy to the lineup. Tim, who has over two decades of experience in reporting and presenting, acknowledged the influence of Carr and Ardon on his career: “They’ve taught us to care about every detail but most importantly how to be loyal to the people who matter most: our viewers.”
Angela added, “Watching them has helped me develop to a point where we’re ready for the future.”
As Maryna Fewster, CEO of Seven West Media WA, stated, “2026 is going to be huge with this shuffling of roles.” The leadership at 7NEWS Perth assures the public that while familiar faces will change on certain nights, the commitment to high-quality journalism will remain steadfast. News Director Christien de Garis emphasized, “Our promise to WA is to deliver more of the stories that matter to you.”
The revamped schedule will also feature Ryan Daniels covering sports and Samantha Jolly handling weather. Adrian Barich and Charlotte Goodlet will continue as part of the weekend team.
