UPDATE: The Woodend Food Bank is urgently seeking community donations to support approximately 50 local families each week. Located in the undercroft of the Woodend Neighbourhood House, this vital service is available to anyone in need, providing access to food, household, and personal hygiene items.
Manager Melissa Baker announced that the food bank, which opened two years ago, was created to address the growing demand for food assistance in the Macedon Ranges area. “The food bank was developed due to the demand and increasing need locally for people with food insecurity,” Baker stated.
The food bank relies heavily on community support, with no ongoing funding available for operations. “We are very reliant on donations, either through the donation bins at Coles and IGA in Woodend or through monetary donations directly to the neighbourhood house,” Baker explained.
Residents can help by donating non-perishable items such as canned soups, tuna, cereals, instant coffee, and long-life milk at local supermarkets or directly at the neighbourhood house. While household items are also appreciated, any refrigerated items should be delivered directly to the food bank.
The Woodend Food Bank operates on Mondays and Thursdays from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, making it easily accessible for those in need. To find out how to help or for information on volunteering, visit woodendnh.org.au or call 5427 1845.
This is a critical moment for the Woodend community. With the cost of living increasing and food insecurity on the rise, every donation makes a significant impact. Community members are encouraged to step forward and contribute, ensuring that no family goes hungry.
Together, we can strengthen our community and support those who need it most. Don’t wait—act now!
