Former MAFS (Married At First Sight) star Lucinda Light has responded to speculation that she may replace Mel Schilling as an expert on the show. This follows Schilling’s recent announcement regarding her departure after a decade-long tenure. In a statement, Schilling cited her health and family commitments as reasons for her decision to step away from the role.
Schilling, who joined MAFS in its second season in 2016, expressed the difficulty of her choice. “This hasn’t been a choice I’ve made lightly. My health challenges and living in the UK, spending up to three months a year away from my family, is no longer sustainable,” she stated. “It has become clear that I must make a change that puts my family, health and time at the very centre of my life.”
Lucinda Light’s Response to Speculation
With Schilling concluding her role at the end of this season, fans of MAFS are curious about who will take her place. Lucinda Light, who gained popularity during the 2024 season, has emerged as a leading candidate among viewers. Her previous experiences on the show, particularly her challenging marriage to Timothy Smith, have led many to believe she would bring valuable insights to the new cohort of participants.
“Since the news dropped, I’ve had a wave of gorgeous messages asking if I’d consider stepping into [Mel’s] role,” Light told PEDESTRIAN.TV. “I’m deeply touched, and I truly mean that — the faith people have in me is not lost on me.” Despite the encouragement from fans, Light is currently tied up with another project. She is in the UK filming a dating show titled Celebs Go Dating and has indicated that her busy schedule limits her ability to step into the expert role.
“Let’s be honest, I’m very single, and I’m currently in London filming Celebs Go Dating. I’m very much in student mode, learning and soaking up wisdom,” she added. While this news may be disappointing for some fans, Light has expressed her support for Schilling and Channel 9 during this transition.
Potential Candidates for the Expert Role
Light is not the only name circulating as a potential replacement for Schilling. According to Woman’s Day, Belinda ‘Love’ Rygier is also being considered. Rygier, who has experience as a contestant on Matty J’s season of The Bachelor, is a love coach and public speaker. However, she declined to comment on the speculation when approached by PEDESTRIAN.TV.
The show has not yet confirmed who will fill Schilling’s position, leaving the situation open to speculation. Schilling’s departure will leave behind fellow experts John Aiken and Alessandra Rampolla, who joined the show in 2015 and 2021, respectively.
As fans await confirmation on Schilling’s successor, they remain engaged with the unfolding storylines of MAFS and other reality TV programs.
