Nikki Glaser is set to host the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on January 7, 2026, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. Known for her sharp comedic style, Glaser aims to deliver another memorable performance, despite facing challenges in crafting jokes about one particular star: Julia Roberts.
Glaser, who received accolades for her hosting duties in 2025, expressed her struggle during an interview with the Associated Press. “She’s been the toughest nut to crack,” Glaser remarked about Roberts, who is nominated for Best Female Actor for her role in After the Hunt. The film is competing in the drama category, and Glaser noted that audiences have been particularly sensitive about humor related to Roberts.
“I just want to do the perfect joke,” Glaser said. “But it’s like people do not have a sense of humour about Julia Roberts.” She mentioned that even her most innocent attempts at jokes have been met with boos from audiences during her test performances.
While Roberts may be a delicate subject, Glaser has a wealth of material to draw from elsewhere. The film One Battle After Another leads the nominations with nine nods, while the series The White Lotus has six nominations.
Among the Australian nominees, Jacob Elordi stands out with two nominations, one for Best Supporting Actor for the film Frankenstein, which he recently won at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Elordi is also nominated for Best Lead Actor for the limited series The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
Co-nominee Sarah Snook has also received recognition for her performance in All Her Fault, a limited series filmed in Melbourne. She won the Critics’ Choice Award for the same role, further solidifying her status in the industry.
Other Australian talents nominated include Joel Edgerton, recognized for Best Male Actor for his role in Train Dreams, and Rose Byrne, nominated for Best Female Actor in a motion picture – musical or comedy for her work in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
The Golden Globes will feature various categories, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Best Screenplay – Motion Picture. The evening promises to be filled with excitement as the entertainment industry gathers to celebrate its top talents.
As Glaser prepares for her return to the Golden Globes stage, the anticipation surrounding her performance and the nominees continues to build. The event not only honors cinematic achievements but also serves as a platform for humor and light-heartedness, even as some jokes may require careful consideration.
