HEART 7 Mobile Clinic Launches to Combat Lung Cancer in WA

A state-of-the-art mobile clinic is heading to remote WA, including the Pilbara and Kimberley, to deliver life-saving lung cancer screenings.

URGENT UPDATE: A groundbreaking mobile health clinic, HEART 7, is set to transform healthcare access in remote Western Australia, launching next week to deliver essential lung cancer screenings and specialist care. Heart of Australia’s latest initiative will first serve the Pilbara, Kimberley, and Midwest regions, bringing life-saving medical services directly to those who need it most.

HEART 7 will begin its inaugural journey on October 30, 2023, aiming to reach underserved populations in regional towns. “We are incredibly proud to see the first truck of our national expansion hit the road. To date, we’ve treated almost 20,000 patients and directly saved more than 900 lives,” stated Rolf Gomes, Founder of Heart of Australia. This mobile clinic represents a significant step forward in delivering critical health services across the nation, with Western Australia being the perfect launchpad.

Funded by the Federal Government, HEART 7 will initially focus on the National Lung Cancer Screening Program, addressing the alarming rates of lung cancer in First Nations communities. Dawn Casey, deputy chief executive of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “We cannot afford to wait; early detection is critical. Our people must have care that is effective and culturally safe.”

The HEART 7 clinic will not only facilitate early detection but also ensure that healthcare is delivered in a manner that respects both community and Country. “By working together to make screening accessible and culturally inclusive, we can support our people to take control of their health and give families more precious time with their loved ones,” Dr. Casey added, highlighting the emotional impact of this initiative.

As the clinic rolls into towns, it aims to create a ripple effect of health benefits, making vital care closer to home for those who have long faced barriers to access. The next phase of HEART 7’s rollout signals a commitment to expanding services, potentially offering a range of specialist healthcare options in the near future.

Stay tuned for further developments as this urgent health initiative takes shape in Western Australia.
