Israel Confirms Truce Amid Deadly Strikes: 104 Killed in Gaza

BREAKING: The Israeli military has reaffirmed its commitment to a US-backed ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, even as a series of air strikes have resulted in the deaths of 104 individuals, including 46 children and 20 women. This escalation follows the death of an Israeli soldier during an attack on Tuesday, marking the most severe violence in the region since the truce began on October 10, 2023.

The military’s latest air strike occurred in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, where authorities report that two additional casualties resulted from targeted operations against what Israel claims were weapons storage sites. Despite the ongoing bombardments, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) maintain they will uphold the ceasefire while responding to any provocations.

The situation intensified following the death of the Israeli soldier, who was reportedly killed by gunmen in a location previously vacated by Israeli troops under the ceasefire agreement. Hamas has denied responsibility for the attack. In retaliation, the IDF launched strikes against 24 militant targets, including a commander involved in the October 7 assault on Israel.

In a statement, the IDF described these air strikes as “necessary responses” to ensure the safety of Israeli citizens and military personnel. US President Donald Trump, speaking aboard Air Force One, emphasized that the ceasefire remains intact, stating, “When that happens, they should hit back.”

The humanitarian impact of the violence has been severe. Reports from medical personnel in Gaza indicate that the death toll includes a significant number of non-combatants, raising urgent concerns over civilian safety. Footage from local hospitals shows the grim aftermath of the air strikes, with many families mourning their losses.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani expressed his frustration over the recent escalation, calling the attacks “very disappointing.” Qatar, alongside Egypt and the US, has been actively involved in efforts to broker peace in the region. Al-Thani revealed that Hamas is reportedly open to discussions about disarming, a significant shift given their control over Gaza since 2007.

As the situation develops, the international community watches closely. The ongoing violence poses a critical challenge to peace efforts in the Middle East. Observers are urging both sides to adhere to the ceasefire agreement to prevent further loss of life.

What’s Next: The world awaits further updates on the situation, particularly responses from Hamas and reactions from international mediators. With tensions high and civilian casualties rising, the urgency for a renewed dialogue is greater than ever.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story unfolds.
