UPDATE: A severe storm is currently battering Perth and the WA coast, bringing hail, wild winds, and flash flooding. Residents are urged to take immediate precautions as the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning at 9:28 AM today, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms throughout the day.
According to official alerts, localized rainfall of between 25mm and 50mm is expected in the Perth region, with flash flooding alerts already in effect. Manjimup has already reported 24.2mm of rain between 3:15 AM and 4:15 AM this morning. Images of hail have flooded social media as residents share their experiences of the intense weather.
Wind warnings are also in place, with gusts reaching up to 90km/h expected. Cape Leeuwin has already recorded wind gusts of up to 111km/h early this morning. The areas most likely to be impacted include Perth, Morra, Gingin, Jurien Bay, Lancelin, and Badgingarra.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued critical safety advice for those in the affected areas. Residents are advised to seek safe shelter away from trees and power lines, close curtains and blinds, and remain indoors away from windows. Motorists are urged to be vigilant for hazards such as fallen power lines and debris.
Even the sports community is feeling the impact of the storm. The West Coast Eagles faced the harsh elements during their practice this morning, with players caught in the downpour.
