UPDATE: Three teens are facing serious charges after an alleged armed carjacking and a dramatic police chase early this morning in Hampton Park, Melbourne. At approximately 12:55 AM on Sunday, a 76-year-old man was threatened with a knife while parked on Blackwood Dr. This shocking incident has left the community in disbelief.
The suspects—a 13-year-old girl and two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17—reportedly demanded the keys to the victim’s red Hyundai Kona before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the victim and his two passengers, a 51-year-old woman and a 77-year-old woman, were unharmed physically.
Authorities tracked the stolen vehicle to the Dandenong area, where it was abandoned on Heatherton Rd. The trio then allegedly switched vehicles, entering a second stolen car, a red Nissan Dualis. Victoria Police confirmed that a high-speed chase ensued as the suspects recklessly navigated through multiple suburbs along the Monash Freeway.
The chase culminated on the Princes Hwy at Pakenham, where police successfully apprehended all three individuals. They have been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, theft, and fraudulently using a registration plate. The 16-year-old boy faces additional charges of dangerous driving while being pursued by police and unlicensed driving.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, the teens have not been charged with aggravated carjacking. This means they will not be subject to the new “adult time for violent crime” laws in Victoria, as reported by Sunrise.
As the investigation continues, community members are left shaken by the events. Police authorities are urging anyone with further information to come forward. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding youth crime and public safety in the area.
