The popular eatery, Handroll Project, located at 598 Guerrero Street in San Francisco, has officially closed its doors. The owners, Tan Truong and Chef Geoffrey Lee, are pivoting to launch a new dining concept in the same space called Hamburger Project. This change comes as they seek to redefine their culinary offerings within the vibrant Bay Area food scene.
While the exact opening date for Hamburger Project has yet to be announced, the menu is expected to feature a selection of smashburgers, fries, and soda pop. This new venture will follow the successful template established at their current location at 808 Divisadero Street, where smashburgers have gained a loyal following.
At the Divisadero site, customers can choose from a variety of options, including the Classic Burger, which consists of a beef patty topped with American cheese, diced white onion, house sauce, and pickles. Another popular choice is the “Oklahoma” Fried Onion Burger, featuring a beef patty with American cheese, sweet onion, house sauce, and peppadew peppers. The menu also boasts a “Wisconsin” Butter Burger, topped with American cheese, sautéed onions, house sauce, and whipped butter.
In a brief conversation with What Now San Francisco, Truong provided limited details regarding the transition from Handroll Project to Hamburger Project, leaving many questions unanswered. The fate of the Handroll Project concept remains uncertain following the closure of its sole location.
For those unfamiliar with Tan Truong, he is also the owner of Ju-Ni, an intimate omakase restaurant situated in San Francisco’s North of the Panhandle neighborhood. His culinary ventures have garnered attention for their innovative approaches and quality offerings.
As the Bay Area community awaits the debut of Hamburger Project, food enthusiasts are encouraged to follow updates from What Now San Francisco on social media to stay informed about upcoming restaurant openings and developments. This transition marks a significant shift in the local dining landscape, and many are eager to see how the new concept will unfold.
