Central Coast Offers Exciting Free Activities This Holiday Season

The Central Coast is set to host a diverse range of activities during the upcoming school holidays, from September 29 to October 10. Most of these offerings will be free or available at minimal cost, providing an excellent opportunity for families to engage in various recreational and educational experiences.

Get Active will lead the charge with an array of full-day programs designed for swimming and sports enthusiasts. Activities include junior basketball clinics, pool inflatables, a waterslide, and a Splash Park, alongside intensive learn-to-swim classes. These initiatives aim to promote physical fitness and enjoyment among children and teenagers.

On October 8, the Youth Day Out event promises free activities suitable for all ages and skill levels. Participants can enjoy skateboard and scooter drop-in sessions, as well as advanced mentoring sessions from special guests. The event will also feature music, creative activities, and a complimentary community barbecue, fostering a vibrant atmosphere for attendees.

In addition to these events, youngsters can explore their creativity at local libraries, which will host glow-in-the-dark crafts and sensory play sessions. All-ages LEGO challenges, tie-dye workshops, painting, and sculpture classes will also be available, alongside a hands-on electric music production program called Digi Beats.

Art enthusiasts can take part in workshops at the Gosford Regional Gallery, where sessions will cover watercolour painting, collage creation, manga drawing, and jewellery making. Live performances at the Laycock Street Community Theatre will include shows such as The Librarian and The Owl’s Apprentice, providing entertainment for the entire family.

Animal lovers will have the chance to learn about pet care with Council Ranger Sara during the Pet Pals program. Additionally, educational workshops will focus on environmental awareness, including whale talks, insect hotel construction, rockpool exploration, and the wonders of native bees and biodiversity.

For those interested in sustainability, the Mini Dam Discovery Day will offer behind-the-scenes tours of the Mangrove Creek Dam. Families can also participate in a workshop about waterwise gardening, learning how to create wicking garden beds.
