Renewable energy company Flow Power has announced the acquisition of the Dunedoo Energy Project, a shovel-ready solar and battery hybrid project located in regional New South Wales. The deal, finalized recently, includes a 55 megawatt (MW) solar farm paired with a 60 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), both of which come with necessary state development approvals.
The Dunedoo Energy Project is situated approximately two kilometers north of the town of Dunedoo, within the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). Flow Power plans to develop, build, own, and operate the facility, with construction set to commence later in 2023. The project will connect to Essential Energy’s Dunedoo Substation via a new 66 kV transmission line, which will be supported by upgrades to the existing substation.
Community Engagement and Project Development
Mark Raymond, Head of Project Development at Flow Power, expressed enthusiasm regarding the acquisition, stating, “Adding the Dunedoo Energy Project to our growing renewable energy portfolio is an exciting milestone for Flow Power. We look forward to constructing and operating the Project in partnership with the local community.”
Flow Power emphasizes its commitment to community engagement throughout the construction and delivery phases. The company plans to interact with local residents, landholders, community groups, and stakeholders to provide updates and gather feedback. Records from the New South Wales planning portal indicate that the project received three public submissions, with two in support and one in opposition.
Flow Power’s Renewable Energy Initiatives
Founded in 2017, Flow Power has been at the forefront of renewable energy initiatives in Australia. The company pioneered affordable renewable power supply agreements, initially targeting businesses and industries, and has more recently expanded its offerings to households. One of its notable achievements was establishing a “first-of-its-kind” Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Ararat wind farm in Victoria.
In 2021, Flow Power transitioned from securing PPAs to developing its own projects, starting with several sub-5 MW solar installations in South Australia. The company launched its first DC-coupled solar and battery hybrid project, the 5.8 MW / 6.7 MWh Berri Energy Project, located northeast of Adelaide, in 2023. Additionally, the firm reached financial close on its largest project to date, the 100 MW / 223 MWh Bennett’s Creek Battery in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley, in December of the previous year.
As Flow Power continues to grow its renewable energy portfolio, the acquisition of the Dunedoo Energy Project marks a significant step towards enhancing the company’s capabilities in the renewable sector and contributing to sustainable energy solutions in Australia.
