BREAKING: Erin Valkenburg has just launched “Happy Unhoarding,” a vital clutter service aimed at helping individuals reclaim their spaces without the stigma of judgment. This initiative comes in the wake of personal crises, including her mother’s mental health struggles exacerbated by COVID-19.
In 2023, Valkenburg faced the overwhelming challenge of cleaning her mother’s home, which had become unmanageable during the pandemic. Quoted a staggering $5,000 for professional assistance, she took matters into her own hands, leading to a transformative three-week effort supported by family. “There are many people like my mum who struggle with their houses,” Valkenburg stated. “Many don’t know how to get the support they need.”
Valkenburg’s journey, rooted in her childhood experiences in Wodonga, has shaped her deep understanding of resilience and empathy. Living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, ADHD, and autism, she reflects, “I am an open book.” Her personal battles have fueled her passion for helping others navigate their own challenges.
Through Happy Unhoarding, Valkenburg aims to provide more than just a clean home. “I want people to feel seen, supported, and grounded,” she emphasized. She is particularly interested in assisting farmers, stating, “They make plenty of sacrifices and don’t often have the time—everyone needs someone.”
Notably, Valkenburg recognizes that hoarding behavior often stems from emotional voids, such as loss or disconnection. “It’s not a competition. And there’s no judgment whatsoever,” she reassures potential clients. “I’ll work with anyone who needs a helping hand.”
The urgency of this service is evident as more individuals and families face similar struggles in the wake of the pandemic. Valkenburg’s mission exemplifies a growing need for community support and understanding in dealing with clutter and mental health issues.
As Happy Unhoarding gains traction, Valkenburg invites those in need to reach out, emphasizing that asking for help is a sign of strength. “We are all human. We all bleed red, we all feel, and we all have needs,” she concluded, reinforcing her commitment to a judgment-free zone.
For those interested in reclaiming their space, Happy Unhoarding offers a compassionate approach to decluttering, making it a relevant and timely resource in today’s challenging environment.
