RMIT Europe and Disseny Hub Barcelona Collaborate on Design Research

RMIT Europe has officially partnered with the Disseny Hub Barcelona to enhance design practice research, a collaboration that aims to foster innovation and creativity within the design community. This partnership will be particularly evident during the PRS Europe events scheduled for November, showcasing a series of activities that highlight practice-based research methodologies.

The PRS Europe program, which takes place biannually in May and November, brings together researchers focused on understanding the processes that designers and artists engage in while developing new creative practices. This initiative includes doctoral examinations, candidate presentations, keynote speeches, and a seminar series. These events aim to create an engaging environment for critical reflection and dialogue surrounding creative practice research.

This November, the Disseny Hub Barcelona will host several key events, including the opening ceremony and a keynote panel discussion titled “Reflecting on Design Practice Research,” alongside three PhD examinations. The Disseny Hub is recognized as a significant cultural venue dedicated to design, making it an ideal partner for RMIT Europe in this initiative.

Marta Fernandez, Executive Director of RMIT Europe, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that it reflects a mutual commitment to advancing creativity and design. “Together we contribute to Barcelona’s creative ecosystem and the broader community of practice-based research,” she stated, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the initiative.

Dr Fleur Watson, Chair of PRS Europe and Associate Professor at the RMIT School of Architecture & Urban Design, echoed this sentiment. She highlighted the importance of the Disseny Hub as a venue that aligns with the design-focused objectives of the PRS Europe events. “We are looking forward to this month’s upcoming PRS event along with future editions and to working with the Disseny Hub Barcelona’s team,” she remarked.

The collaboration has also received support from Xavier Marcé, the City Councillor for Culture and Creative Industries of Barcelona. Marcé stated that this partnership reinforces Barcelona’s status as a global design reference. “Supporting RMIT’s PRS Europe at the Disseny Hub Barcelona strengthens our commitment to cultural exchange and knowledge sharing,” he added, highlighting the broader implications of this partnership for the city’s cultural landscape.

In summary, the partnership between RMIT Europe and Disseny Hub Barcelona represents a significant step forward in promoting research and collaboration in design practice. With a series of impactful events planned for November, both organizations are poised to make meaningful contributions to the ongoing dialogue surrounding creativity and innovation in the design sector.
