Bendigo Spirit Crush Perth Lynx 87-58 in Milestone Match

BREAKING: The Bendigo Spirit triumphed in a sensational 87-58 victory over the Perth Lynx, marking a significant milestone as Marianna Tolo and Kelsey Griffin celebrated their 250th games in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL). The match unfolded at the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium on November 12, 2023, and showcased Izzy Borlase’s stellar performance, scoring 26 points and achieving four steals.

Fans flooded the stadium to support Tolo and Griffin, amplifying the emotional atmosphere. Griffin shared,

“It took a faithful broken finger to put us on the same track for the game record,”

reflecting on their unique journey to this milestone.

Borlase, the league’s second-highest scorer, led the charge with her fifth game of 20 points or more this season. Tolo and Griffin contributed ten and seven points, respectively, along with critical rebounds—grabbing five and eleven. Their combined efforts were pivotal in achieving the team’s impressive victory.

The Lynx, facing challenges this season, struggled with their shooting accuracy, hitting only 17 percent from three-point range. Coach Ryan Petrik acknowledged the team’s difficulties, stating, “We made a run to start the third quarter and missed two lay-ups. From there, the house fell.” Perth’s loss drops them to third on the ladder with a record of 5-3.

Bendigo’s defense was relentless, holding Perth to their lowest score since November 2020. The Spirit’s momentum was evident as they executed a strong run, taking a 37-33 lead into halftime. Borlase continued to shine, scoring six points in the third quarter while limiting the Lynx to just ten points.

As the match progressed, it became clear that the Spirit had the upper hand. Despite a promising start from Perth, who initially led with a 10-4 run, they could not withstand Bendigo’s tenacity. The Spirit’s victory not only secures a crucial win but also highlights the significance of Tolo and Griffin’s careers in the league.

Looking ahead, both teams will need to regroup. Bendigo, now standing at 5-2, will aim to build on this victory, while Perth faces a critical moment as they prepare for their upcoming matches, including a challenge against the UC Capitals next week.

Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how both teams adapt and respond in the coming games. The excitement surrounding Tolo and Griffin’s milestone, paired with Borlase’s rising star power, promises more thrilling action in the WNBL.
