Sing Choi Kee Expands to Malden with Hong Kong Street Food

A new culinary option is coming to Malden as New York-based Sing Choi Kee prepares to open its first location in Massachusetts. The eatery will take over the former site of More Than Coffee at 7 Pleasant St, according to city filings. This expansion reflects the growing popularity of Hong Kong-style street food in the United States.

Founded in November 2023, Sing Choi Kee currently operates one restaurant in Flushing, New York, and has plans for another in West Nyack. The menu at Sing Choi Kee is a vibrant mix of traditional Hong Kong café staples and whimsical comfort dishes. Patrons can expect to find favorites such as dim sum, char siu, and omurice, in addition to unique offerings like slippery egg over rice, beef pasta, and Hong Kong-style French toast.

The eatery has garnered attention for its extensive bubble tea selection and creative “Little Bear” teas and lattes, which feature bear-shaped ice cubes. These playful drinks have quickly become popular on social media platforms. According to the restaurant’s Google Business page, “Following the influences of post-World War II British culture on Hong Kong, locals adopted the delightful combination of tea with milk and the enjoyment of delectable cakes. This cultural shift gave birth to the Cha Chaan Tengs, offering quick and affordable dishes catering to the community’s new tastes. At Sing Choi Kee, we take pride in advancing this rich legacy.”

Alvin Qu, the franchisee for the new location, informed What Now Boston that the space has undergone recent renovations and is tentatively scheduled to open in about one month, pending final inspections. As the opening day approaches, the community can keep up with the latest updates by following Sing Choi Kee on Instagram at @sck_boston.

The arrival of Sing Choi Kee in Malden signals a growing interest in diverse culinary experiences in the region, as residents seek out authentic international flavors. This new establishment aims to bring a slice of Hong Kong’s vibrant street food culture to local diners.
