Amazon’s OpenRock S2 Headphones Target New Year Fitness Goals

As individuals gear up for their New Year fitness resolutions, the search for suitable headphones has intensified. Amazon’s latest offering, the OpenRock S2 Open Ear Headphones, aims to fill this gap with a focus on both affordability and functionality. Priced at £76.99 for khaki and £79.99 for black, these headphones present a compelling alternative to Apple’s first-generation AirPods Pro, which retail for around £79.80, or £76 when refurbished.

The OpenRock S2 distinguishes itself not just through price, but also in design. Unlike traditional in-ear buds, these open-ear headphones feature a lightweight structure made from soft liquid silicone, weighing just 7 grams. This design, complemented by a flexible hook, ensures a secure fit for various ear shapes, making them suitable for active lifestyles. Reports from the Liverpool Echo highlight the headphones’ stability during vigorous activities, such as running or gym workouts, thus addressing a common issue faced by fitness enthusiasts.

After initial trials, users may need to adjust their expectations regarding comfort and sound quality. The headphones may feel different from in-ear models, leading some to question their fit and audio experience. However, once properly positioned, the OpenRock S2 remains securely in place, even during intense physical movement. This characteristic is particularly appealing to those seeking a reliable option that does not shift during exercise.

The OpenRock S2 also boasts sweat and water resistance, alleviating concerns about potential damage from moisture. Each earbud features a multifunction button that enables users to pause music, skip tracks, and answer calls. While some may find the button placement slightly awkward, its functionality remains a valuable addition.

In terms of audio performance, the OpenRock S2 utilizes BassDirect technology, which aims to enhance low-frequency sounds. While the sound quality is commendable for a budget option, it may not match the clarity and richness found in premium models like the latest AirPods Pro 3, priced at £219. Some users have reported that higher frequencies can become muddled, compromising vocal clarity during playback.

Despite these minor drawbacks, the OpenRock S2 excels in the realm of noise cancellation. Users have noted that the headphones effectively block out external noise, comparable to the performance of the AirPods. Equipped with four microphones and AI-powered noise cancellation, the OpenRock S2 delivers an immersive listening experience, a key feature for many users.

Battery life is another strong selling point. The headphones can provide up to eight hours of continuous use on a single charge, and with the included storage case, they can last for a total of 35 hours. However, potential buyers should note that these headphones do not come with a USB-C charging cable, which will need to be purchased separately if not already owned.

On Amazon, the OpenRock S2 has garnered a 4-star rating, although some users have expressed reservations about their fit, commenting they can “sometimes feel as though they flap in front of the ear.” Despite these critiques, the OpenRock S2 presents a viable option for those embarking on their New Year fitness journeys. They cater to individuals seeking a budget-friendly alternative to in-ear headphones without sacrificing essential features.
