Phil Salt delivered an impressive performance for England in the first T20 match against Ireland, scoring 89 runs off 46 balls to help secure a four-wicket victory in Malahide. When asked about his prospects for returning to the ODI team, Salt said, “Not many, to be honest. I can’t say much more than that.” He acknowledged that while he was encouraged to adopt an ultra-aggressive style similar to T20, he did not manage to score the necessary runs in the 50-over format to secure a place in the squad. “I nailed my colours to the mast, that’s what the team wanted of me, and it didn’t quite work out,” he added.

Salt’s role in the T20 match was crucial, particularly in partnership with Jos Buttler, who contributed to a rapid stand of 74 runs in just 28 balls. I’m always the one looking to be aggressive early on, throw the first punches if you will, and Jos more often than not comes in and does his own thing.”
