UPDATE: Infinity Mining has just announced a groundbreaking partnership with Singapore-based Orivium Global Pte Ltd to revitalize the historic Cangai Copper Project in northern New South Wales. This collaboration is set to leverage Orivium’s cutting-edge extraction technology, promising a significant transformation in how valuable metals are recovered from previously overlooked waste piles.
The two-year memorandum of understanding (MOC) is aimed at implementing Orivium’s proprietary Super Oxidiser system, a revolutionary method that bypasses toxic acids and energy-intensive processes typical of traditional mining. This innovative approach operates at ambient temperatures, utilizing a regenerative, closed-loop system to efficiently leach metals from low-grade feeds such as e-waste and mine slag, producing no harmful tailings and generating green hydrogen as a byproduct.
The partnership is particularly timely as demand for battery metals and critical minerals surges amid the global green energy movement. Infinity Mining will target copper, precious metals, nickel, and rare earths from the old Cangai mine site, which historically produced significant quantities of copper and gold before shutting down in 1917 due to resource depletion and wartime shortages.
Infinity Mining’s CEO, Emma Clark, expressed optimism about the initiative. “What was once considered waste is now a treasure trove, with laboratory tests indicating strong potential for full copper recoveries and associated metals,” she stated. The project aims for early cash flow, with profits split 60/40 in Infinity’s favor after cost recovery.
Infinity’s strategic acquisition of the Cangai project in November 2024 has opened new avenues for low-capital, scalable operations. The company intends to process old tailings dumps and stockpiles, potentially benefiting from a $2.9 million funding application to the Federal Government’s Cooperative Research Centre Projects, with decisions expected in Q3 FY26.
Moreover, the collaboration will not only focus on Cangai but is positioned as a test case for Orivium’s technology across Infinity’s extensive 3,700 square kilometre portfolio in mining hotspots throughout New South Wales, Victoria, and Western Australia. This could dramatically enhance Australia’s circular economy and reduce reliance on imports.
Infinity and Orivium are also teaming up with the University of Sydney to incorporate academic insights into the project, enhancing the feasibility of regenerative mining practices. A technical cooperation committee is already being formed to facilitate project planning, with construction expected to conclude by June 2026.
As Cangai transitions from a relic of the past to a beacon of innovation, this partnership exemplifies a shift in the mining industry towards sustainable practices. The revival of the Cangai Copper Project could demonstrate that yesterday’s waste is the key to tomorrow’s resource rush.
Stay tuned for further updates on this transformative initiative, as Infinity Mining and Orivium pave the way for a new era in mining technology.
