Two Dead in Toolern Vale After High-Speed Stolen Car Crash

UPDATE: Two people are dead, and one man is hospitalized following a devastating head-on collision involving a stolen car in Toolern Vale, Melbourne’s outer north-west. The crash occurred just before 10 AM on Sunday, October 15, 2023, when state highway patrol officers attempted to stop another vehicle on Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road.

Witnesses report that a stolen white Holden Cruise sped past the patrol officers, leading to a catastrophic collision with an oncoming vehicle. Both drivers tragically died at the scene, while a passenger in the Holden, a man in his 30s, has been transported to the hospital with upper body injuries. According to Ambulance Victoria, he is currently in serious but stable condition.

Authorities confirm that the stolen Holden was taken from Werribee South on Saturday afternoon, shortly after 4:30 PM. The crash site, Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road, is known for its winding single lanes, stretching from Gisbourne Road to the Diggers Rest train station, where it connects to the Old Calder Highway.

This tragic incident highlights the urgent dangers associated with high-speed chases and stolen vehicles. Police are working diligently to formally identify the deceased drivers and gather further details about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
