Robbie Williams has delighted fans by releasing his new album, BRITPOP, three weeks ahead of schedule. The album became available in the early hours of Friday morning, with its artwork illuminated on iconic landmarks across London to celebrate the surprise launch. Originally slated for release on October 10, 2025, Williams pushed the date to February 6, 2026, fearing that his album would be overshadowed by the release of Taylor Swift’s latest work, The Life of a Showgirl.
This marks Williams’ 13th studio album, showcasing a strong return to guitar-driven sounds reminiscent of the Britpop era that influenced his early solo career. In his announcement, Williams expressed his excitement, stating, “You thought it was gonna be then… then we decided it wasn’t… and now I’ve decided it’s now. Ladies and Gentlemen: BRITPOP – the album.”
The album serves as a follow-up to 2019’s The Christmas Present and 2016’s The Heavy Entertainment Show. It features a diverse range of singles including Rocket, Spies, Human, Pretty Face, and All My Life. Collaborations on this project include notable artists such as Chris Martin from Coldplay, Gaz Coombes, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, the Mexican pop duo Jesse and Joy, and former Take That bandmate Gary Barlow.
Reflecting on the album’s conception, Williams shared that BRITPOP represents the music he aspired to create after departing from Take That in 1995. He noted, “I set out to create the album that I wanted to write and release after I left Take That in 1995. It was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British music.” He described the album as “raw,” infused with more guitars, and noted its upbeat and anthemic qualities.
Williams expressed immense pride in the album, stating, “There’s some ‘Brit’ in there and there’s certainly some ‘pop’ too – I’m immensely proud of this as a body of work and I’m excited for fans to hear this album.” If BRITPOP achieves the top spot on the UK charts, Williams will equal The Beatles in holding the record for the most UK chart-topping albums, a significant milestone in his career.
As fans eagerly dive into this surprise release, the anticipation surrounding Williams’ latest work continues to build, solidifying his place in the evolving landscape of contemporary music.
