The North Footscray Devils have secured former Australian Football League (AFL) player Lynden Dunn for the upcoming 2026 season. This strategic move aims to bolster both the playing and coaching ranks as the Devils look to build on their strong performance from last year, where they finished as runners-up in the Western Football League Division 2.
Dunn, who boasts an impressive career of 198 AFL games with the Melbourne and Collingwood clubs, was drafted in 2004. He is a life member at Melbourne and currently oversees Collingwood’s father-son and community pathway programs. The Devils announced on their social media platforms that Dunn would take on a dual role within the club, contributing both on and off the field.
In a statement, the Devils expressed their enthusiasm for Dunn’s addition, highlighting his extensive experience and dedication to grassroots football. “Dunny brings an enormous amount of knowledge and experience across all levels of football, along with a genuine passion for developing young players and giving back to grassroots footy,” they stated.
In his capacity as director of coaching, Dunn will collaborate closely with the current coaching staff to enhance not only player development but also the overall football program at North Footscray. This role positions him as a key figure in nurturing the next generation of talent within the community.

Since his retirement from the AFL, Dunn has continued to engage with football at various levels. He played for West Coburg in the Essendon District Football League and more recently served as player-coach at Caulfield in the Southern Football League. His diverse experience adds a valuable perspective to the Devils’ ambitions.
Dunn is not the only new signing for North Footscray. The club has also announced the recruitment of Nicholas Papakalodoukas, who joins from Tullamarine, and Abdi Fitaax, who played alongside Dunn at West Coburg. These additions signal the Devils’ commitment to strengthening their squad ahead of the forthcoming season.
Coaching responsibilities for the upcoming season will fall to Robbie Hudson, who takes over from David Battistella, who stepped down at the end of last season. Hudson’s leadership will be pivotal as the team aims to capitalize on the momentum generated by last year’s performance.
